July 17, 2026 | I went to the seaside this week. I went to Clacton to experience the excitement of the coming by-election; but what I found was something much more concerning for our democracy.

I spoke to more than 40 people, and what astonished me was the sheer number of voters who knew nothing about the by-election or simply didn't care about politics at all.

Of those who did, the divide was stark: either a cult-like devotion to Nigel Farage, or a damning view of him as an opportunist chancer.

This week, the facts underneath Reform UK's accounts tell a very different story: an undisclosed £5m gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, a convicted fraudster acting as the party's unofficial treasurer, money routed through a renamed company and an Australian currency exchange nobody can trace, deputy leader Richard Tice's murky Dubai property deal, and Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick under active Metropolitan Police investigation over an allegedly illegal foreign donation.

Meanwhile Farage has triggered a pointless by-election in Clacton, running unopposed against novelty candidate Count Binface, in a transparent bid to dodge the scrutiny closing in from the parliamentary standards commissioner, the Met, the National Crime Agency and his own furious donors.

In this video, I go through the evidence: his racist dog-whistles and the role his speeches played in the Southport riots; his defence of Andrew Tate — a man accused of rape and human trafficking — as "an important voice for men"; his warm relationships with Viktor Orbán and stated admiration for Vladimir Putin; twenty years as an MEP in which he attended just one out of forty-two fisheries committee meetings, claimed every penny of expenses, and is now collecting an EU pension of £73,000 a year. Yes, really.

I also look at the organisation he leads — Reform UK Party Ltd — which is not a democratic party at all. It is a private limited company with three directors, one of whom is Farage himself, and where ordinary members have no vote on anything. A pathetic little dictatorship.

Then there is the small matter of the £5 million currently being investigated by the Parliamentary Standards Watchdog, his rich friends including Harbourne and Aaron Banks, and the question of what exactly they get in return.

And finally — Brexit. The biggest act of economic self-harm in British peacetime history. That is his legacy. The Makerfield by-election is coming. Reform is expected to lose. And Farage knows exactly what that means.

I totally agree with Michael’s synopsis. Both of the situation in America and of the situation in the world under Trump, and of the distinctly possible scenario of Britain under our very own home-grown buffoon, Nigel Farage.

Rob Groves: The Crypto Billions behind Farage & Reform UK

May 16, 2026 | Nigel Farage is under formal investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner after it emerged that Thailand-based crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne secretly handed him a £5 million personal gift. Just before Farage reversed his decision and stood for Parliament in 2024. He never declared it. But this isn't just a Farage story. Harborne has a remarkable track record of donating to right-wing British politicians and watching government money flow back toward his business interests. He gave Boris Johnson a million pounds, and two months later, Johnson's government handed an £80m MoD contract to a defence company where Harborne was the largest shareholder. His total donations to Reform UK now exceed £22 million. That's roughly two-thirds of everything the party has ever raised. And the timeline of Farage's sudden conversion to cryptocurrency evangelism tells its own story.

May 13, 2026 | Ten years after the vote to leave the European Union, the rise of populism and increasingly radical leftism could be a foretaste of the American political future.

One can but weep for this country! Brexit has put us into a fine old mess! Brexit has brought us impoverishment, no opportunities for economic growth, and nothing to look forward to. Britons’ rights as citizens have been stripped away, replacing them with a few feudal ‘rights’ as subjects of the King, and little else. Prior to that ridiculous, ill-thought-out Brexit, Britons had a decent future. They could move to any EU country and work there, start a business there, set up home there, avail themselves of free healthcare there, travel visa-free there, and for those who love their pets, because of the ‘EU Pet Travel Scheme’, they could even move there with their beloved dogs, cats, or ferrets! Now, just to travel there involves all manner of hurdles to jump. One could call it the steeplechase of the century!

One of the main architects of Brexit and all the troubles and travails that Brexit brought with it is, of course, that infamous, self-serving, self-enriching snake oil salesman, Nigel Farage. And how the naïve and ill-informed have been taken in by him! They have even gone and cast their vote for him in recent local elections, voting for the very man who has made them poorer! Michael Lambert: Why Reform UK Won't Take Power Despite Farage's Rise

May 9, 2026 | As expected, Reform UK under Nigel Farage has triumphed in this week's local elections, but it will not win a general election, and Farage will never become Prime Minister.

In this video, I explain why. Many of the votes cast for Reform UK were protest votes from disaffected Labour and Conservative voters. Many are likely to vote differently in a general election.

In this video, I highlight some of the content of the party’s manifesto, or 'Contract with the People', much of which is clearly unachievable as confirmed by the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

Policies include massive tax reductions and reducing the NHS waiting list from 7.25 million to zero in two years.

I also quote details of some of the many Reform UK councillors who have appeared in the press for various offences such as racism and hate speech.

Finally, I comment on the most prominent members of Reform UK, such as Lee Anderson, Suella Braverman, Zia Yusuf, Richard Tice, Robert Jenrick, Nadhim Zahawi and Nigel Farage who acccepted a gift of £5 million from a crypto currency millionaire living in Thailand, and how Farage now promotes crypto currency.


Excellent synopsis. I laughed more listening to this video by Michael Lambert than usual. It’s his droll humour that dies it! 😊 Reform UK are such a motley bunch anyway, yet they all have several things in common, namely dishonesty, racism, fantasy, a love of Trump, and a hatred of the European Union. (I’m sure there are other characteristics which haven’t immediately sprung to mind.)

I hope Michael is right about the Party never coming to power. It would be a disaster.

Bottom line: I understand people’s protest votes; but I do not understand how so many people could possibly vote for a man who is the ultimate source of all that ails the country and its economy. — © Mark Alexander

Michael Lambert: How Brexit Has Wrecked the UK Economy

Jun 28, 2025 | Last week saw the 9th anniversary of the referendum in which the UK voted to leave the EU. Since Brexit, the UK has struggled economically and faces several major challenges.

Jonathan 'Johnny' Reynolds is the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry charged with spearheading the UK's push for growth. Reynolds who was previously a trainee solicitor and then an assistant to MP James Purnell has no previous business experience. Despite this, he boasts of three major trade deals with, India, the EU, and the USA. It is estimated that these three deals will add less than 1% to the UK GDP in about ten years’ time. Leaving the EU has cost the UK at least 4% of GDP.

Since growth in the UK is very slow owing to the overall economic conditions, and since it is now almost impossible for small and medium sized businesses to sell to the EU given the onerous post-Brexit paperwork and expense involved, it is difficult to see where growth can be found.

Since leaving the EU, the UK has suffered from a shortage of workers in many sectors of the economy, including the NHS, care, hospitality, construction, food processing, and agriculture.

Whilst some EU workers were initially replaced by those from countries such as Nigeria, Bangladesh, and India in response to calls from Nigel Farage, the government has now introduced minimum salary requirements of almost £40,000 per annum for anyone seeking work in the UK. The result is likely to be much more severe shortages.

The government plans to train up British citizens to do the work formally done by foreign workers. Inward investment, often amounting to foreign companies buying UK infrastructure and businesses has dried up, although it is expected that major US asset managers will soon start buying up and renting back UK housing stock.

The chief executive of Coutts has resigned with immediate effect over the private bank’s mishandling of Nigel Farage’s account.

Peter Flavel, who became boss of Coutts in 2016, said the treatment of Mr Farage had “fallen below the bank’s high standards of personal service”.

Paul Thwaite, the interim chief executive of NatWest, which owns Coutts, said: “I have agreed with Peter Flavel that he will step down as Coutts CEO and CEO of our Wealth Businesses by mutual consent with immediate effect.
